Where is the barcoding industry headed in 2012?
While industry night is always Monday night, we usually take this time to analyze how barcoding is affecting other industries, such as retail and healthcare. Tonight, we’ll focus on the Barcoding industry itself, and predictions for 2012.
As mobility continues to expand into the consumer marketplace, barcoding and automated data collection continue to thrive. Devices such as the iPad are already being used in the healthcare and retail sectors for automated data collection, and while the barcode industry is adapting, businesses are on the hunt for solutions that combine mobility and ease of use. In addition, 2D barcodes are becoming more widely used in both the consumer and enterprise business space.
Cedric Mollon of Intermec anticipates “…growth in the marketplace to be fueled by the rise of 2D Imaging.” While Al Quinn of Motorola Solutions feels that “…consumers’ use of mobile phones and mobile barcode will continue to flourish in the retail space.”
Between 2D barcodes and increased consumer mobility, the barcoding industry should have a busy 2012. Share your thoughts on where the barcoding industry is headed by commenting below, or n our Facebook or twitter pages.

President Obama spoke on the importance of global supply chain security.
President Obama recently spoke at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland regarding a national interest in protecting our supply chain against terrorists, criminals and natural disasters.
Businesses throughout America have supply chains that reach across the world. By having parts made in different locations, costs are cut, but a significant amount of risk is taken on. Threats such as natural disasters, terrorist attacks or pandemics could disrupt the global supply chain, ultimately affecting the goods we rely on every day.
The National Strategy for Global Supply Chain Security focuses on everything involved in the supply chain, from transportation, to shipping, to infrastructure, and urges that we adopt a strong system able to absorb threats and quickly recover from disturbances.
Smarter solutions need to be developed, information sharing should be enhanced and standards should be synchronized on both the national and international levels.
Would Obama approve of your supply chain? Get the latest in supply chain logistics and protect the global supply chain.

As mobility continues to affect the way we live, work and play as consumers, it’s no surprise that retailers and other businesses are going mobile. As is evident with the exhibitions at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES).
One notable exhibit was PaySaber, a secure, mobile credit card solution for the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. Best of all, they offer different solutions depending on the size of your company.
For example, if you’re a small, on-the-go company, such as a food truck, you may be interested in the PaySaber Clip, similar to the more commonly known Square.
For larger businesses, there’s PaySaber POS, which includes a barcode scanner, thermal printer and encrypted card reader all in a light-weight, mobile point of sale (POS) system. In addition to simply taking payments, it’s easy to manage inventory, conduct returns and print receipts or invoices. Businesses will also be able to access real-time reporting and product, inventory and customer databases and more. From there, reports can be made in commonly used programs such as Excel and QuickBooks.
It’s interesting to watch how mobility has and will continue to affect POS solutions. Now, how long will it be until we can all just pay through our cell phones–no credit card needed!
