Is RFID the future of Retail?
Learn how a Japanese store is using RFID hangers to enhance the consumer experience.
While RFID is beginning to be implemented in retail environments for merchandise visibility and inventory tracking, it’s most recent appearance at the mall is for consumers rather than businesses.
In order to enhance the shopping experience and hopefully boos sales, a department store in Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan has began experimenting with interactive hangers. Clothing is arranged on a rack below large monitors. Once a shopper lifts a garment from the rack, the closest monitor will display the selected item being modeled.
Imagine picking up a sweater and you’re not 100% sure it’s for you, until you look up and see it looks fabulous on the model–sold. Watch the video below to see the RFID hanger system in action:
